Carbon Farming

INDEPENDENT CONSULTANCY, SOIL SAMPLING

TECHNICAL SERVICES FOR

CARBON FARMING PROJECTS

Soil sampling on carbon farming projects under the ACCU Scheme (ex ERF) is complex process requiring expertise. Our expertise lies in working with these methodologies and providing on ground and consultancy services that are audit ready for the Clean Energy Regulator (CER).  Under ERF and like soil carbon methodologies, we have taken over 10,000 samples on many projects across Australia.  We sampled the first project in Australia to obtain Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU's) and continue to provide quality, trusted services to the sector.   We conduct soil sampling and record keeping complying with auditor standards but you get far more with our soil science and technical capacity and extensive field experience.  We handle Chain of Custody (COC) to accredited laboratories and reporting on request.  Our plant and ancillary equipment is to specification under methodology and our soil technicians are certified with a background in soil science

Soil Sampling

HYDRAULIC SOIL CORING UNDERTAKEN BY EXPERT SOIL SCIENCE TECHNICIANS

Good land management planning starts in the field with sound methodical soil sampling, ensuring the highest level of accuracy on targeted soil types. Your samples are assessed for soil chemistry, soil organic carbon, organic matter, and biology to inform management decisions. Visual observations of soil profiles across your  farm can include changes along the soil profile like water infiltration, soil texture, colour, moisture, root depth and density. We also specialise in soil sampling for carbon farming under the ACCU Scheme (ex ERF) at depth. We only use NATA and ASPAC accredited independent laboratories for analysis. The hydraulic soil corer makes deep soil sampling efficient, effective and safe.  How deep? We generally work at 1m depth but have a bit more up our sleeve. If you want to know that your management is heading in the right direction, a well managed soil sampling and analysis program is an effective part of your management toolkit.

Soil Health Assessments

SOIL HEALTH IS CRITICAL TO YOUR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY

Soil health management and monitoring are vital to economic and environmental agricultural resilience.  A decline in soil health has a direct effect on production and the environment.  Soil health assessments that we undertake on your farm are consistent with best practice, have sound basis in science, require minimal resources accessible to each land manager, and are clear on interpretation of results.  Soil health assessments represent how your soil functions, dynamic processes and properties sensitive to climate and management. We look at biological, chemical and physical soil properties. We can teach you to fish here and train you to undertake these visual soil health assessments. We ask, what is the nature of the soils on your farm, what is the health report of those soils, what planning can be put in place to increase the function of your soils?

Soil Management

PRINCIPLES GUIDING PRACTICE

OF SOIL MANAGEMENT

Effective and productive soil management is based on sound principles that guide your practices on farm.  Practices that are measurable and adaptive follow underlying principles.  We can take a look with you, what principles drive your decision making and practice. A soil management plan is your best tool to increase farm landscape function, economic profitability, productivity, food security and social capacity through innovation and adaptation in soil health management.  We view soil management plans not just by looking at the ground, we consider the whole farm system and the human diversity that propels adaptations and innovation.
